So as you all know New Harmony is on fire and has been evacuated. No news there. The fire was started July 25th by lighting way up in Pine Valley. The BLM has kept their eyes on it and have done their job well. But atlas the winds have changed and the fire has turned toward the town. And as always there is someone there to point fingers. I was reading the reports on the Mill Flat fire and ran into comments of people blaming BLM, the Forest Service, and even the government for this fire.
What irritates me is people who blame people for natural disasters. How can you blame some one for an act of God?
The firefighters are suppose to help protect our homes while letting nature take it course. We need fires to help complete the "circle of life." This fire is needed to allow for other vegetation to survive. According to the
U.S. Forest Service speaking on the Mill Flat fire: Its location in areas with remnant aspen is helping to clear the way for future aspen regeneration by creating openings in the conifer." So my understanding is that the conifers are thriving and not allowing the aspens to have a chance. So to make it equal again, there needs to be a fire. Also according to the
U.S. Forest Service:
Naturally-ignited fires like the Mill Flat Fire can accomplish the Forest Service’s objectives for fire in wilderness areas: “Permit lightning caused fires to play, as nearly as possible, their natural ecological role within wilderness,” and “Reduce, to an acceptable level, the risks and consequences of wildfire within wilderness or escaping from wilderness.”I don't know if something could have been don't differently to protect the town better, I was not privy to this information. But that is is the past.
People should come first before all else. But when does the blaming stop. Can't we just accept that it has to be? That it is the way of life? I believe that we should do what we can to protect our stuff but how about we stop whining.
This is all. I just had to vent. Thanks for listening. :)
If I'm wrong you can let me know, nicely.

You are completely right! I fight with people about this all the time. It is the same thing with the beetles on Cedar Mountain. They come, the trees burn down and the quakies come back. It's the circle of life!!
ReplyDeleteDon't people remember how in Bambi when the forest came back after the fire it was gorgeous and new things were growing?
Same with this!!!
Oh, and I hope the town is okay! They're all in my prayers
Bren,
ReplyDeleteI too am so sick and tired of people blaming and hating and being angry.....build in the trees, and the fire will come! I am so thankful that no lives have been lost, 2 firefighters were killed in California when they drove off of a mtn when they tried to out run the flames! So sad........

Wow, Miss Brenda, well said. I don't like what the fire did, but I hate more what is happening to the people in the valley. I am afraid to go to work today knowing that I will be blasted with the negative stuff. I am going to just keep smiling. Love you, me
ReplyDeleteGosh I am sooo glad that fire is over. Such a controversy especially being on the other end. There is so much that the public does not have knowledge with respect to fire but I do agree that the fire shouldn't have been what it was. Fire use management fires are a joke. I dont agree with them and I can only say that now that I dont work with the BLM anymore. Agg but glad its controlled and out. How is the Carling family doing?
